Super Bowl Weekend!

Most years, I don’t care who wins the Super Bowl, but since I can only enjoy a game if I have someone to root for, I randomly pick a team. This year, the opposite is happening. I like both teams!

The Indianapolis Colts are a fabulous team with Peyton Manning as quarterback. I admire this man because he does his job, does it well, and seems to avoid drama in his personal life. Another reason I like the Colts is that even though Tony Dungy is gone, it’s still the team he built. And Tony Dungy, in my opinion, is everything a professional football coach should be—a student of the game, someone who cares about doing his job well, a good citizen of the community, and a man of faith.

I like the New Orleans Saint because it runs in my blood. My family is from Saints Country—South Mississippi and parts of Louisiana. Even when the Saints never won a game, people from that area still loved their football team, and Archie Manning was king. Now, years after Katrina, many people are rooting for them because they’re the team with heart, and they need something like this after all they’ve been through. I saw on the news yesterday that crime is down in New Orleans since the Saints won the play-off game!

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve spent some time thinking about which team to root for during the Super Bowl, and after much back-and-forth flipping, I’ve decided on the Saints. But it’s safe to say that if the Colts win, I won’t be devastated.

We’ll be here at home, yelling at the TV, wearing our game clothes (T-shirts in our team’s colors), and eating foods we avoid at any other time. I know you won't believe this, but I'm actually sorry I'm going to miss the Super Bowl this year. And yes, Debby Mayne, I do watch it almost every year. :-) I don't wear team colors or yell at the TV (except sometimes during the commercials), but I'm an American. And the Super Bowl is part of our birthright. At least, that's what my Marine Corps officer/football coach father always taught me. :-)

I'm not a big football fan, and neither is my husband. In fact, when we were dating that was one of his selling points as far as I was concerned. One year we drove on Skyline Drive during the Super Bowl. This year we have a blizzard so I guess we'll find something else to watch on TV. This year, probably the weather report!

LOL, Sandie! Yes, you are a true American! So who are you rooting for?

Stay warm, Tamela!

Although I like the Colts, I am going to have to go with New Orleans this year. I think the city needs it! Plus with Tony Dungee gone my love for the Colts isn't as strong. Go Saints!

Hi, Carrie! I agree that the Saints need something like this. Enjoy the game!

I thought my husband was the only man alive who didn't care about football until I read Tamela's post. Ha! When it's time for the Superbowl, I'm usually the one clammering for us to watch--as much for the commercials as anything. :)
Thanks for sharing the recipes, Debby. We're on a lo-carb diet and loving it--I can usually take any recipe and remake it into something I can enjoy.

About the Saint--I'm a big fan of underdogs and who isn't? I've actually teared up when listening to the story of how far they've come!

Hey, Beth! I know what you mean about tearing up for the underdogs. I'm that way, too.

Go Saints! Or as one of my buddies from Mississippi said, Geaux Saints!

Until yesterday, I didn't even know who was playing whom! So, one could say I'm not an extreme fan. I only watch it if friends are over and THEY want to watch it, and I am happy that my boyfriend is not a sports fanatic. I probably won't watch it, but may venture to the mall or something since it (obviously) won't be crowded!

Hey Debby!

I'm not a big football fan. I only watch the game when Alabama's playing. But, I did love the crowd-pleasing recipes.
I may not be a big football fan, but I am a big food fan!! **grin** Thanks for the recipes.
