Changed Heart - Class Reunion Story

One of my new friends, Donna Cullen, shares her class reunion story. This one shows the power of God's love and how He changes hearts.

Here's Donna's story:

Donna Cullen now

I went to my first reunion after 40 years. As a child I was bullied a lot by other girls. I wore glasses and was plump, and some of the jock type girls used to bully me on the way home from grade school and the first year of high school.

At the only reunion I had ever gone to, the girl who was the meanest came up to me and apologized for all the things she had said and done growing up. I told her I had forgiven her a long time ago, but thanked her for saying that. She seemed very happy and finally looked me in the eye. God is good always.

Yes, Donna, I agree. God is always good. I suspect you were more beautiful than you realized back in high school. I think glasses are way cool!

Class Reunion - Kathi Macias

Kathi Macias
When I asked Kathi Macias to share her class reunion story, she gave me a bonus. Now I'd love to see her show off her salsa dancing skills!

Here's what Kathi said:

I’ve attended only a couple high school reunions, neither of which was memorable. We women were carrying a few more pounds and the guys a bit less hair, but otherwise nothing earth-shaking beyond the disappointment of not being able to have meaningful catch-up conversations because the music was too loud. But the Tortilla Flats Reunion? Now that was a different story.

My husband and I were both born and raised in Ventura, California, and we’ve known one another since we were kids. We grew up just a few blocks apart, though my Latino husband was born in the oldest part of town, Tortilla Flats. He doesn’t remember living there, as his family moved a few miles away while he was still a baby, but every time we hear of another Tortilla Flats Reunion in Ventura, we make a point to try to attend.

We love the events because they’re centered around family and nostalgia—and lots of good Mexican food. It’s a blessing to reconnect with old friends and reminisce with various generations. It also gives me a great opportunity to practice my salsa dancing! One thing we’ve noticed in particular lately—while we once fit in with the young adult crowd and then the middle-agers, we are now slipping into the senior citizen bunch, which is thinning out each year. All the more reason to attend while we can! And we will continue to do so as long as we are able.

Class Reunion - Coming soon!

As we draw closer to the release date of my first Class Reunion series book, Pretty is as Pretty Does, I've been asking friends and family members for their own class reunion stories. The first one is from my daughter Alison's mother-in-law Georgette Ingraham.

Georgette Ingraham
Here's what Georgette has to say:

I was scheduled to go to my 10-year reunion (I graduated from an all-girl Catholic high school.) My husband Jack really didn't want to go but I insisted. The night before the dreaded reunion, he ended up in the hospital with an emergency appendectomy!

After his operation, I said, "Jack, I didn't realize how badly you didn't want to go to my reunion!" Obviously, I ended up going alone!
